American Architectural Window and Door sponsors GlassRoots in Newark.

 In blog

American Architectural Window and Door is proud to become a sponsor of GlassRoots over the next year, starting with the Virtual Gala 20th Anniversary Celebration on October 22, 2020. We were excited to participate in the Virtual Gala, which highlighted its honorees, University Hospital President and CEO Dr. Shereef Elnahal and GlassRoots’ former board chair Kathryn Markel, hosted a terrific silent auction, and of course, spotlight some of its amazing students.

Since its founding in 2001, GlassRoots has engaged tens of thousands Greater Newark-area youth with its services, including its core Youth Entrepreneurship programs, student field trips and “art-for-art’s sake” classes for the public. The core of GlassRoots is to harness the fire and danger of glassmaking to engage area youth.

As part of the GlassRoots program, students develop patience, teamwork, creative problem-solving, plus the discipline and resilience they need to safely work with 2200-degree fire and molten glass. They gain hands-on experience in chemistry, physics, and math. They become young entrepreneurs as they develop and market their products as well as grow stronger each time they forge glass and experience the power of their own creativity. Equally important, they are part a vibrant community in which all learn from each other.
