131 Varick Street
New York, NY
As soon as our 131 Varick Street project was completed, our crew was quickly mobilized to begin work one block away on another Manhattan Mini Storage building at 161 Varick Street. Like 131, 161 will be fitted with Kalwall® translucent composite structural panels. A total of (478) Kalwall Translucent Panels were installed.
AAWD’s team of certified Kalwall installers started work on and complete the 6-story low-rise portion of the building before they move onto the 15-story high rise. Kalwall translucent panels are being installed to allow natural daylight in while providing additional insulating energy efficiency for the building. This project needed meticulous installation engineering and detailed measurements, requiring in some cases the use of drone technology to fit each window opening due to existing conditions. This engineering work determined that every opening required its own specific sizing, resulting in a large puzzle of parts and pieces that fit into a grid design and receptor frame system. The team of highly experienced installers used all this information to totally transform the look of 161 Varick Street.
